Mastermind Group
A mastermind group is a structured group experience that a professional facilitator guides. Mastermind groups bring groups of people together to analyze, review, and offer one another relevant and insightful feedback on a particular topic or idea, thus creating an exponential rise in our paradigms of behavior and ideas.
Napoleon Hill first introduced the term in the 1920s and went on to expand the definition a decade later in his book Think and Grow Rich. He described the principle of the group as “coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose… No two minds ever come together without, thereby, creating a third, invisible, intangible force, which may be likened to a third mind.” An easy way to put this is that two minds are always better than one.
The group provides access to energy, strength, and ideas that aid us in the ability to accomplish amazing things. Many accomplished and recognized individuals throughout history have used mastermind groups to assist them in their achievements, such as Benjamin Franklin, Henry Ford, Andrew Carnegie, and J.R. Tolkien. Tolkien used a mastermind group to help him to write the Lord of the Rings series, including The Hobbit.

Many groups use John C. Maxwell’s books, such as Leadership Gold, Everyone Communicates, Few Connect, Put Your Dreams to the Test, The 15 Laws of Growth, and Become A Person of Influence. These works are used as a way of engineering discussions on leadership, coaching, and other topics and how to apply these lessons to their daily lives. In a comfortable, confidential environment, members often begin a discussion on one or more of the chapters or laws. Drawing out personal stories reveals opportunities for change.
