Biography
Ms. Shirley “Shirl” Wicks joined Vital Knowledge Group to continue her long history of leadership and mentorship. Ms. Wicks has spent her entire professional career in the Nursing and EMS fields. Shirl has spent most of her career as a successful leader, teacher, mentor, and a patient advocate. She shares Vital Knowledge Group’s beliefs of respect, ethics, and the golden rule of do onto others as you would have them do onto you.
Shirl was raised by her grandparents in Coles Point, Virginia; where they instilled in her the work ethic, love of service to others, and the determination that she credits for her long and rewarding career.
Shirl became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1978 and continued her education, becoming a Registered Nurse in 1991. She holds several undergraduate degrees in nursing and science, and a dual Master’s degree. In 2009, Shirl received the Excellence in Education Award from the VCU Health System; recommended for this award by her staff for her work in the development and implementation of the Orientation process of the Care Coordination Department. Shirl has held several adjunct faculty positions, teaching nursing on the college level and is a volunteer instructor for the practical nursing school from which she graduated.
Shirl has a deep love for teaching. She believes that fostering, caring, and providing relatable experiences are the best way to make new knowledge truly vital.
